Choice & the Hunter’s Machine

Choice and the Hunter’s Machine is a contemporary interpretation of the Mahabharata epic created in collaboration with Indonesia’s world famous Black Umbrella Theater Company.

The piece debuted in Jakarta, Indonesia in 2003 and was invited to the Jakart International Arts Festival and toured to the Bandung Performing Arts Academy in West Java. This piece was a large-scale collaboration, involving 30 performers and designers.  Co-creators Tikka Sears and Manuel Castro spent 18 months in Indonesia on a Fulbright Artist-In-Residence grant collaborating with the Black Umbrella Theater and Artistic Director Rachman Sabur. The creation of the piece was supported by the JakArt Festival, The US Embassy and the American-Indonesian Fulbright Commission.
